Teams' expectations of solution completeness

| Posted by prechelt | Permanent Link | Live Announcement

At about 10:00 I went around and asked each team to prepare a rough estimate of what fraction (in percent) of the functional requirements they expect to implement until the end of the contest (15:00), separately by requirements category.

Here are the results:

teamMUSTSHOULDMAY
1 (EdG/Optaros, Perl)708065
2 (plusW, Perl)805033
3 (abaXX, Java)1007050
4 (Accenture, Java)501010
5 (RevSys, Perl)10010075
6 (Oxid, PHP)808050
7 (Globalpark, PHP)100205
8 (Zend, PHP)702010
9 (Innoopract, Java)201010

Fairly different amounts of confidence...

(Yes, the requirements specification document will be put online some time soon)

Tobias, like most perl users, looks pretty confused. There is a large difference between talking and delivering. Perl guys always like to *talk* about how productive their language is, but that is just a mantra. Look at the results; an incomplete solution delivered 2 minutes before the time was over. They had lots of "reasons" why it didn't work out though!

Java isn't a very productive language at all, but it sounds like even they smoked the perl guys. Wonder why that is?

Eh, obviously, virtual machines are not available any more.

And I really wanted to see finished websites.

Er, apologies for typo. I meant, until when?

Will team solutions continue to work for public testing, after 15:00 this day, and if so - until then?

The RevSys dudes know how to deliver (and Accenture most definitely doesn't) - Go Perl! Go Perl! :)
